The Crash Recovery System from Moditech (www.moditech.com) has since the first news about the system attracted alot of attention and interest from the fire service community. The system is designed to run on a tabletpc and is intended to be used on the accident location. Based on the impression from demonstrations of the system, I would say that the user interface seems to have been designed to actually conform to the demands of the intended use context. It is not the most beautiful interface but it delivers what it promises. According to the Swedish Rescue Agency Monthly Journal (the Siren), one of the Swedish Rescue Colleges in Sweden is exploring the potential use and benefits of this type of system, I am currently not aware of if any rescue service in Sweden actually is using this system.
