Mobile computer use for fire crews

During the TIEMS-ISCRAM Summerschool in Tilburg, I got the opportunity to interview a local fire crew where they run a pilot study on mobile computer use to support operative emergency response work. The device currently in use is a xplore tabletpc used by the crew commander. The system provides access to building blueprints, vehicle crashcards, hazmat databases and simple GIS-functionality. According to the firemen and fire crew commander, the system is very well targeting the needs during the mobilization phase, intervention phase and during the later phases of the response work. The system is now used on real incidents. Later this year, all vehicle will be equipped with this type of technology.
