On the 2nd november, on invitation by Dr. Bartel Van de Walle (one of the founders of the ISCRAM-community), gave I a talk at the Research Seminar at Information Systems and Management Department at Tilburg University.
The topic was “How can information technology be designed to support emergency response work?” The questions and answers round-up after the talk focused mainly on how we can balance the impact of mobile technology, supporting network-oriented social interaction , on the traditional and hierarchical emergency command system. As designers we should not just introduce technology in an unreflected way, but also take responsibility and design the technology to comply both to the operative as well as the strategic needs.
