The U.S government website GeoMac provides an easy to use web-application to view past and ongoing wild fires. The tool is intended to provide, what they call, “Geo-spatial Multi-agency Coordination”. Have a look and try it: http://www.geomac.gov. Have a quick look on the numbers of wild fires from 2004, and one understands the enormous costs and efforts that is required to deal with these emergencies.
