Two-day observation of command centre work

On monday 12th and tuesday 13th of september I made a visit to a command centre in one of the major fire & rescue services in Sweden. The aim of this fieldtrip was to make inital studies (observations and interviews) of the work of command centre operators. My specific focus was to study their use of a geographical information system in dispatch work and coordination tasks. The system had enriched geographical data such as orto-photos, detailed property information and incident plans for specific locations. The observations and contextual interviews gave many new insights of the work practice. The command centre operators were very helpful in providing me the opportunity to take part of their work, even when multiple incidents were handled.
