Associate professor David Mendonca presented his experience from applying for funding from NSF (National Science Foundation) and getting the applications funded.
His overall advice is to follow these rules:
# Understand the funding agency from the inside out and from the outside in. – Make sure your idea fits with the program that you are submitting.
#State the broader impacts of the research proposal
#State the intellectual merits of your research proposal
# Know the review criteria
#Understand that every person will not read all proposals
#Help the reviewers, they are not idiots, but they are busy
#Help the person in the review committee, that actually have read the proposal, to tell the others what the research is about.
#On-reject: Milk-out feedback for all it´s worth, but mindful of the inherent
stochasticity of any review process.
